Books On Bette
What's out there?
What's out there for books? A variety. I shall do my best to keep up to speed on what comes through my radar whilst still maintaining a life outside this site, lol. I'll post here, the books I'm aware of and have access to, providing a review for each when time permits. I prefer to read a variety on a subject or person of interest before forming a more confident conclusion. But just in case some of you want only a taste, I'll guide you to a meal of words, a biography with the most value.
This N' That: An Autobiography
Haven't come far along in this one to date, but so far I can tell you, that it seems a bit touched by the grief of her daughter's perceived betrayal and so a somberness eminates from this knowledge and some of the cripted allusions or perhaps addresses to BD Hyman. Recommendation? Don't rush out for this one until I can give you more ;)
The Girl Who Walked Home Alone -by Charlotte Chandler
Bette Davis herself, upon reading Charlotte Chandler's biography on Groucho Marx, actually called on the biographer/writer to work with the actress and if interested, to write her personal biography. The author was indeed motivated from the onset, and within a day of the luncheon invitation, responded and committed to the project. A biography that the subject herself would read, would endorse, provoke? Truly worth inspecting!
Dark Victory: The Life of Bette Davis -by Ed Sikov
Let it be said and perhaps forewarned, that Bette Davis once admitted that she felt better about a woman writing her life story than a man, as she believed men to not have understood her. Aside from this being noted, I have yet to read it.
The Lonely Life: An Autobiography
This is known of somehow more than This N That, and I await obtaining a copy before I say more.
